Let’s create a driveway that’s built to impress — and built to last.
Our standard broom-finish concrete driveways cost about $9 per square foot on level ground. A typical two car driveway is 600 to 800 square feet, or roughly $5,400 to $7,200. Sloped driveways are priced after a site visit. The variables that move the price are slab thickness and reinforcement, demolition and haul off of the old driveway, grading and drainage work, and finish. A standard broom finish is the most economical, while stamped patterns, decorative borders, and color add to the total. All estimates are free and written.
Four inches is the minimum for passenger vehicles. We recommend five to six inches with heavier reinforcement if you park a full size truck, RV, trailer, or work vehicles, or if delivery trucks will use the drive. Every driveway we pour is reinforced with rebar or wire mesh supported on chairs, over a compacted and graded base. Thickness without a solid base is wasted money, so the prep work matters as much as the pour.
You can walk on it after 24 to 48 hours. Passenger vehicles should wait about seven days, and heavy vehicles such as loaded trucks, RVs, or moving vans should wait the full 28 day cure. During that first week, keep sharp turning of the steering wheel while stopped to a minimum, because it can scuff a green surface. We leave you with clear instructions and mark the drive so nobody parks on it early.
For most San Antonio homeowners, yes. Concrete costs more upfront but lasts roughly 25 to 40 years, compared to about 15 to 20 for asphalt with regular resealing. Asphalt also softens in triple digit summer heat, which leads to rutting and tire marks where vehicles sit. Concrete reflects more heat, keeps its shape, and can be stamped or colored for curb appeal. Asphalt still makes sense for very long rural drives where the initial cost difference is significant.
Yes. Widening for a third parking space, adding a turnaround or parking pad, and extending a drive to a new garage or shop are among the most common jobs we do. We dowel into the existing slab where appropriate and place an expansion joint at the connection so both sections move independently. Note that new concrete will not match the exact tone of a weathered slab, so many homeowners choose a stamped or colored border to make the addition look intentional rather than patched.
The portion of your driveway inside your property line generally does not require a permit, but the drive approach, meaning the apron between the curb and the property line, sits in the city right of way and does require permitting through San Antonio Development Services. Contractors performing that work must be listed with right of way management, and residential approaches inside the city limits are required to be concrete and built to the city sidewalk and driveway guidelines. We handle the permit and the approach detail so the work passes inspection the first time.
Some hairline cracking is normal in any concrete slab. Structural cracking is not, and it is almost always traceable to a poor base, missing or misplaced reinforcement, control joints cut too shallow or spaced too far apart, or water undermining the slab. We compact and grade the subgrade, place steel on chairs at mid slab depth, cut control joints at the correct spacing within the first day, and build in the slope needed to move water away from the house and the drive. That combination is what keeps a driveway looking sound 20 years in.
